Thomas "Tom" Brockman passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center in Lakewood Ranch, Florida at the age of 76. Tom was born March 16, 1949, to Mary (Langley) Brockman and Henry Brockman in Springfield, IL. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1967 and enlisted in the United States Navy.
Tom married the love of his life, Cheryl (Eades) on Aug 3, 1968. During their 57 years together, they built a wonderful life. They had two children: Valerie (Scott) Lokker and Clayton (Kim) Brockman.
After 4 years in the Navy, Tom settled at home in Springfield, IL, and became a diesel mechanic. Later he was employed for over 20 years at the State of Illinois Comptroller's Office before retiring to full-time RV around the United States.
During his life, Tom enjoyed many things. He loved cars, traveling, camping and the beach.
Tom and Cheryl were members of the Sangamon Valley Campers Club and spent numerous weekends on adventures full of laughter and shenanigans with their camping friends. They travelled the United States pulling their RV and collecting unlimited precious memories. When not pulling the RV, he liked to travel by cruise ship and watch the scenery pass while soaking in the hot tub. After retirement, he spent several years "snow birding" from Illinois to Arizona, Texas or his favorite, Florida. They eventually settled and were an active part of the Winterset RV Resort community.
Tom also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family & friends, especially his grandkids; Sophia Lokker, Kenley Brockman, Naomi Lokker and Chase Brockman.
One of Tom's favorite places was the beach with its peaceful waves and the warm (often hot) sand on his feet. He would float in the water endlessly, bobbing up and down, or rest in the shade while listening to the water. He always enjoyed a beautiful sunset and will be fondly remembered by his loved ones in the beautiful colors of the sun as it sets each day.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; his children Valerie (Scott) Lokker of Belleville, IL and Clayton (Kim) Brockman of Bloomington, IL; his four grandchildren and many families and friends.
Tom will be cremated. At a later date, his family will spread his ashes at sea, in a private ceremony, so he can spend eternity on the peaceful waves watching the sun set.
A celebration of life will be planned in Illinois at a later date. Tom will be greatly missed but will live in our hearts and memories forever.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity in his name.
