After graduation from Iowa State University he and his wife Judy lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1984 they moved to Minnesota, where Tom was employed as an architect until his retirement.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Thelma Cain, brother Douglas and sister Thelma "Annie" Morris. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judith Schmitz, brother Philip, sister Jennifer "Kelly", two nephews and devoted friends and in-laws.
Tom had a quick wit and enjoyed making people smile. He was an avid chess player. He enjoyed playing that and table games with friends. His ability to recall details, even after decades, was remarkable. He will be sorely missed.
