Thomas J. Callahan, of Falmouth, passed away on January 18, 2026. He was 92.
Born on December 5, 1933 in
Jersey City, New Jersey to Richard A. and Margaret A. (Brennan) Callahan. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Joan A. (Seufert) Callahan, who passed away in 2014. Also predeceased by his sister Joan Stewart and brother Richard D. Callahan.
Graduate of All Hallows High School, Bronx, New York, Georgetown University, and Georgetown University Law Center. Retired Captain, U.S. Air Force. Past member of The Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in the City of New York. Past member and governor of the Falmouth Yacht Club and the Air Force Association.
Survived by his sons, John R. Callahan of Falmouth, and Michael J. Callahan and his wife Amy Brundage Callahan of Washington, DC and Falmouth. Granddaughters Joan G. Callahan and Annette R. Callahan. Also survived by four nieces and a nephew.
Tom met his wife Joan aboard the ocean liner SS United States in October 1964 while they were each traveling with their parents on a trans-Atlantic cruise from New York to Europe. They were married in 1966. Tom was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather and his family and his Catholic faith were the center of his life.
Tom enjoyed sailing with his two sons in their Beetle Cats on Vineyard Sound. His sense of humor and quick wit were on display in his many Falmouth Yacht Club racing articles published in the Enterprise through the 1980's and 90's. Despite attending high school in the shadow of Yankee Stadium, Tom was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan. He and his sons and brother enjoyed many games together as season ticket holders of the New York Football Giants. He coached his sons' little league baseball and basketball teams, and he taught their CCD classes. In his younger days, he and his family spent their summers in
Spring Lake, NJ. After a long and distinguished legal career, Tom and his wife Joan retired to Falmouth where they had first been summer residents then year-round residents for 60 years. Tom was blessed in recent years to have his loving daughter-in-law Amy and his granddaughters Joanie and Annette in his life.
Visiting hours will be from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026 in the Chapman Funeral Home, 475 Main St.
