Thomas Chapline Obituary

Thomas Augustus Chapline (Tom), 67, passed away on January 24, 2026, in Severna Park, Maryland after a months long battle with cancer. Born on June 26, 1958, in Frederick, Maryland, Tom lived a life rooted in family and friends.

He was the devoted husband to Diane (Freed) Chapline and the beloved son of George M. Chapline Jr. and Rosemary (Reynolds) Chapline. Tom grew up in a large and lively household as one of eleven siblings, including Susan (Pitts), Jake, Bill, Christine, Joe, Jeff, Jim, Michael, Cindy, and Kathy (Trott).

Tom was a devoted father to Brian and Richard and a cherished grandfather to John and Patrick. He also held a special place in the lives of his many nieces and nephews as a fun and caring uncle who brought warmth and humor to every gathering. At family events, he was often to be found at the bottom of a pile of small children.

Throughout his life, Tom remained connected to his roots in Maryland. He loved living near the Severn River and Chesapeake Bay, walking on the beach and hiking in the mountains. He loved baking bread, playing with his dogs, and listening to all genres of music. His grilling and cooking skills were also displayed at almost all gatherings of family and friends. He was an enthusiastic Ravens fan and whether cheering from the stands or from home, he found joy in sharing those moments with family. He is remembered and appreciated not only for his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, but also for the kindness he extended to those around him, always willing to jump in and help in any situation. His presence brought comfort and strength to many.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Susan R. Chapline; his brother, Joseph T. Chapline; and his niece, Erin F. Sato.

May the memory of Thomas Augustus Chapline bring joy to all who knew him and continue to inspire love among those he leaves behind. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Thomas Chapline
