Thomas Colbeth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ricker Funeral Home & Cremation Care of Woodsville on Oct. 25, 2024.
West Newbury, VT – Thomas A. Colbeth, 72, died at his home with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He was born on October 12, 1952, to his parents Bessie (Stone) and Fred Colbeth, in Woodsville, NH.
Tom grew up in Newbury and graduated from Newbury High School in 1972. He married Aroline "Arie" (Atwood) on April 20, 1974. Throughout their 50 years together, they spent most of it in West Newbury, raising their two children.
While in high school, he worked for the Newbury store and Newbury school. He also worked at the Placey Farm over the years. After graduating, he worked for Bud Powers at Powers Rubbish Removal. After a few years, Tom left to work security at the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital. Tom left Mary Hitchcock to start his farming career where he worked for many local farms, including Carsons-Harkdale Farm in Newbury, and the Tyler Farm in West Newbury. He then moved to Bradford and worked as a manager at Humphrey Veal Farm.
After many years of farming, he decided to change career paths and started working for Bradford Oil as a delivery driver. This sparked his interest in the oil industry, and he pursued a job as an Oil Furnace technician which he did happily for 18 years at Perry's Oil Service before retiring. After retirement, you would still find Tom staying busy. He was the unofficial "Go-To Man" for his neighbors, happily lending a hand with yard work and odd jobs.
Tom enjoyed being outdoors. Throughout the years, you would find him cutting and splitting firewood, tending his gardens, and feeding the birds and wildlife around his home. In the fall you would find Tom in the woods, deer hunting. In his later years, you would find Tom spending time with his dogs, Rosie and Belle.
Tom is predeceased by his parents, Bessie and Fred Colbeth; his brothers, Fred "Jim" Colbeth, and Rodney Colbeth; and a sister, Joyce Colbeth
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Arie Colbeth; his daughter Carrie Moore, and husband Charles "Randy"; his son, Curt Colbeth and wife Angela; a grandson, Robert "RJ Spear; a granddaughter, Emma Colbeth; and a sister, Linda Wilds.
In lieu of flowers, please consider putting up a birdhouse, or bird feeder, or planting an apple tree in Toms memory to continue his love of local wildlife.
It was Tom's request that there be no services.
