Thomas Millage Creighton, known affectionately as Tom, passed away on August 30, 2024, in Silverdale, WA, at the age of 88. Born on October 27, 1935, in Fort Lewis, WA, Tom lived a life marked by dedication, service, and a profound influence on those around him.
Tom graduated from Peninsula High School and, after some time in the Forest Service, embarked on what would be a distinguished 23-year career in the United States Coast Guard. His service was characterized by a deep commitment to his country and excellence in every facet of his duties. He was a vital part of the 13th District Rifle and Pistol Team, where his exceptional skills in marksmanship were recognized multiple times. Notably, his prowess earned him medals in several prestigious competitions, including the Pacific Fleet Matches and the COMWESTAREA Annual Competition.
Beyond his military service, Tom was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was involved in various community and church activities. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing strength and guidance throughout his years.
Tom's hobbies and interests were as robust and varied as his career. An esteemed member of the Washington State Arms Collectors and affiliated with the NRA, he was not only a collector but also an avid hunter. His hunting expeditions spanned from the local terrains of Alaska to the plains of Africa. Additionally, Tom was a skilled pilot, a passion he pursued while stationed in Alaska, owning and operating three different planes over his lifetime.
Tom is survived by his loving wife, DiNae Creighton, and his children, Beverly Creighton Pogue and Rex Creighton. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to Lee, Brandon, Jordan, Rachael, Anthony, Tylor, Gabrielle, Levi, Zoe, Adelaide, Creighton, Maddox, Miles, Brigitte, Warren, Harper, Owen, and Audrey. Tom was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelley Creighton and grandson, Dylan.
A service to honor Tom's life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 2648 Hoover Ave, Port Orchard, WA 98366.
Tom's legacy of service, both in his professional and personal life, and his enduring impact on his family and community will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
