Thomas E. Doyle, age 77, of Middleton, WI passed away on September 13, 2025 at St. Mary’s Hospital after a short illness, with family by his side. He was born on July 17, 1948, the son of Jack and Elner Doyle (McKnight). He grew up on the west side of Madison in the Westmoreland neighborhood; a place he fondly described as a great place for kids to play and learn. He attended Our Lady Queen of Peace, West High School, and graduated from UW-Madison, with degrees in electrical engineering (B.S.), computer science (M.S.) and education (M.S.). In his younger years, Tom travelled extensively in the United States and Europe with his parents and sisters including the National Parks and the Seattle and New York Worlds Fairs. After college, Tom landed his dream job with Motorola, before deciding that teaching was really his passion. He taught electronics and computer science at Blackhawk Technical College (Janesville) and Madison Area Technical College (35 years), where he built lasting friendships.
Tom earned his pilots and amateur ham radio licenses. He had many interests: photography, Boy Scouts, woodworking, writing computer programs, creating computer apps, fly fishing, sports cars, scuba diving and model railroading. Travelling was also a great passion, exploring Europe for 3 months with his college friends, then vacationing around the world and wintering in Florida with his beloved wife, Diane. Tom is fondly remembered by his 2 sisters, Pat and Deb, as being “a wonderful, funny, and supportive big brother.”
Tom leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years Diane; sister Patricia Thomasgard and husband Bob, sister Deborah Stirdivant and husband Steve, nephew Eric, nieces Krista, Sarah, Shannon, and many other friends and relatives. Tom is preceded in death by parents Jack Burton Doyle and Elner McKnight Doyle. Funeral services will take place on September 24th at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Madison. Visitation will take place on the 24th at 10:00AM, followed by a Mass at 11:00. The Burial will take place following the church service at Resurrection Cemetery in Madison. Tom lived a full life and he will be greatly missed by his wife, family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Dane County Humane Society (608-838-0413).
