Thomas E. Eilertsen of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 3, 2023 at the age of 89. He was born in Manhattan, New York, the second son of the late Thomas and Ruth (Olsen) Eilertsen. He was raised in Staten Island, New York. He and his family worshipped in Salem Evangelical Free Church. He served in the Army for two years. He was a graduate of Curtis High School and Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. Thomas was athletically inclined and played numerous sports and especially enjoyed golf, winning numerous trophies. He was employed as a Sales Representative for various companies. He was the husband of Joy (Abrahamsen) Eilertsen for 68 years and the father of Keith Eilertsen, companion of Rosa Crussia.
He is also survived by sister-in-law Jean Abrahamsen, Quarryville; sister-in-law, Pamela Olsen, California; nine nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Olsen, sister, Easter Munsey and husband John; and sister, Ella Hansen and husband Don.
Tom & Joy lives in six states during their marriage and were active in their church life. He served on the Christian Ed. Board and Church Board, taught adult Sunday School classes, was a leader in the Boys Brigade for 11 years, and held an early morning Men's Bible Study in his home once a week for 11 years. He had been a volunteer in the Release Time Ministry (now Bible Adventure) and member of the Gideons and the Lions Club.
He served the community as the chairman of the Civil Services Commission. In 2005, he organized and served as chairman of the Huffnagle Park Civic Association, bringing musical concerts to the community during the summer.
The family would like to thank the staff at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community for the good care they gave Tom during his long illness.
A Memorial Service will take place in the Ellingsworth Auditorium at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, 625 Robert Fulton Hwy., on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 beginning at 1:30 p.m. There will be a greeting time from 1-1:30 p.m.. Traditional interment will be in the Quarryville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Joy El, 3741 Joy-El Drive, Greencastle, PA 17225 for Bible Adventure or to Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, 625 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville, PA 17566 to the Benevolent Fund.
