Tommy Elliott, 63, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, was tragically taken on April 10, 2023 in
Louisville, KY. He was born August 26, 1959 in Elizabethtown KY to Nancy King Elliott and Carroll Lee Elliott. He graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1977 where he was president of his graduating class and continued his education at the University of Kentucky where he graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.
His 42 year career in banking began upon graduation. Tommy was senior vice president of Old National Bank. Former Governor Steve Beshear named Tommy as chairman of the Kentucky Retirement Systems Board of Trustees in 2011. Tommy served on the board of the American Heart Association, Kentuckiana Division and he was the mayor of the City of Norbourne Estates in Jefferson County. He also served on the board of the Jefferson County League of Cities, the Goodwill Industries of Kentucky, Little Sisters of the Poor, The Kentucky Show, Kentucky Educational Television (KET), Commonwealth Fund for KET and Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, Louisville. He was past chairman of the Baptist Health Louisville. Larry Gray, president of Baptist Health, said, "Tommy Elliott has been a passionate advocate for Baptist Health and a community leader. His love for both led him to strong positions calling for accountability and grace. He was forward-thinking, always focused on the next steps to move Baptist Health forward. He was a friend to many who believed in making our community a better place to live and thrive."
The Lexington Herald Leader stated that Tommy was a longtime Democratic Party Fundraiser and a friend of both Steve and Andy Beshear, Kentucky's former and current governors. He was a party activist with close ties to more than a generation of Louisville and Kentucky Democratic leaders.
For Tommy's family and those closest to him, they will remember him as the person who took care of them. His love language was clearly "Acts of Service." From the minute he woke up in the morning, he was thinking about others and what he could do for them. He would manage to take care of things before they even knew what was needed. This included daily tasks, such as doing the laundry and cleaning, to maintaining everything. He was always the one you could call in case of emergency. He could also be quite goofy like listening to Susan Boyle while ironing, watching the classic Andy Griffith Show and telling typical "Dad jokes". These "Acts of Service" went beyond family and community volunteering. There are many who were close to Tommy whose lives he changed in various ways. These acts of kindness were not what he did for thanks or recognition, but what he did because he truly cared about people and doing what was within his power to make their lives better.
His friend, George Stinson said, "Tommy was a son of Louisville and he was everybody's friend."
Survivors include his wife, Maryanne Honeycutt Elliott; his four daughters Katherine Elliott of Asheville, NC, Claire Elliott of
New York, NY, Emily Dotson of
Orlando, FL and Katherine Dotson of Birmingham, AL; sisters Alice Elliott Miller (Jeff) of Dacula, GA and Nancy Carroll Elliott of
