On Friday, March 21, 2025, Thomas John Flammang, passed away in Albuquerque, New Mexico of age-related causes. Born in EL Paso in 1926. He celebrated his 98th birthday, August 15, 2024.

First child of Christopher J. and Mona (Whitaker) Flammang, his father died in 1929. His mother died in 1981.

Tom attended Crockett School and graduated from Austin High School in El Paso with the January 1944 class. He was a four-year letterman and captain of the Austin championship rifle team. He attended one semester of high school in Johnsonburg, PA where he played on the football team as a center.

Throughout his life, he was a visitor to the Johnsonburg-Wilcox area, Elk County, PA.

In 1947 he obtained his registration as an X-Ray and Laboratory technician as a result of an on-the-job training program he negotiated with Felix Miller, MD.

He married Lena Mae Stallings in Carlsbad, NM in February 1947. Two children were born of this union. Shortly after, he joined the staff of Carrie Tingly Orthopedic Hospital in Hot Springs (Truth or Consequences), NM.

This was followed by taking the helm of the Campbell Health Center, Clarion, PA.

In 1951 he was employed by the Pittsburgh Testing Laboratory on the massive hydrogen bomb facility known as the Savannah River Project in Georgia. His job was to X-Ray welds for ineffective applications.

The family moved to Fresno, CA, where Tom was employed by the medical practice of two physicians, Gormley & Knudsen, performing all the X-Ray and Laboratory services.

Both he and his spouse joined the Episcopal Church, where Tom became a licensed lay reader. He was to continue holding various lay positions in the church until his physical incapacity.

He attended Fresno State College, graduating in 1954. Later he joined the Westinghouse X-Ray Division as a sales representative. Transferred to the Berkeley office, the family moved to Walnut Creek, CA. Promoted to regional manager, he served in Cleveland, OH, followed by managing in St. Louis, MO, Pittsburgh, PA, during which time, the division was sold to a French corporation, CGR. He was posted to the Denver, CO, office and later to the Phoenix, AZ, office. He ended his tenure in the Pittsburgh, PA office, retiring at the end of April 1984.

In early 1986, he returned to EL Paso, TX. Where he became an active member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church in El Paso, Texas serving as a Vestryman, Senior Warden, Treasurer and the Ecclesiastical Authority of the church.

Tom began serving as a teaching substitute in the late 1980s, and served in that capacity at the Catholic Girls School, Loretto, Academy, until his 86th year, leaving a major legacy of service to several generations of students.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher Flammang and Mona Flammang Seigel and his wife, Lena Mae Flammang.

He is survived by his son, Tom (Karen) Flammang; daughter, Carol Flammang Fagan (Tom decd.); grandsons, Sgt/Maj. USMC (Ret.) Jerry Flammang, Brian (Dalani) Fagan, Jeffrey Shannon Weddle; granddaughters, Kelly Mahoney, JD (Pat) and Dawn Flammang Hanel (Brian), five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and sister-in-law, Donna (Chris decd.) Flammang.

Cremation rites have taken place. A Celebration of Life service is to be held at a later date at St. Alban's Episcopal Church with interment in the Church Columbarium.
