Thomas M. Foley

Thomas Foley, Sr. of Taftville passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025, of natural causes. He was born in Norwich, CT, on June ll, 1943 to Thomas and Patricia (Skelly) Foley. Tom graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1961 and attended the University of Connecticut for one year. He went on to join the United States Navy, and spent four and a half years faithfully serving his country. After leaving the Navy, Tom worked various jobs, including one at Plastic Wire and Cable, until he was hired as a cook, at Uncas on Thames Hospital in Norwich. While at Uncas, Tom met his wife Marie (Benjamin). They married on May 19, 1973, and spent 47 years together, until Marie's death in 2020.
Thomas leaves behind his two sisters Monica Nichols and Connie Foley, two children Aimee Foley and Thomas Foley, Jr. and two grandchildren, Rocky Spedaliere, Jr. and Anthony Spedaliere, a great grand-dog named Bo, and several cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Marie, his granddaughter Rebecca Spedaliere, and his nephew Aaron Nasuta.
Thomas was a lifetime member of The American Legion, The Thamesville AC, and The Knights of Columbus. In his free time, Tom enjoyed bowling, watching football, and telling his Navy stories to anyone who was willing to listen. He loved attending the baseball games at Dodd Stadium, and was a season ticket holder for several years, until his health prevented him from attending the games.
There will be a graveside service with Military Honors on Tuesday, December 30th at 10 am at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Taftville, CT.
