Celebration of Life: 11:00 a.m. EST, Saturday, October 11, 2025Location: Weymouth Funeral Home
Thomas "Tommy" Keith Freeman, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on August 8, 2025, at 78 years old.
Born in Newport News, Virginia, Tommy was the eldest son of Louise Mertis Vann Freeman and Herbert Lendo Freeman, Jr. He grew up in the Hampton Roads area alongside his younger brother, Paul Douglas Freeman, forming lifelong bonds rooted in family, religion, music, and community. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, and now joins them in peaceful eternal rest.
Tommy shared 47 wonderful years of marriage with his devoted wife Patricia "Patty" Ann Pennington Freeman. Their life together was full of laughter, deep love, and "Pattyisms."
He was a proud and loving father to Amos Ryan Freeman (fiancé, Jamie Anne Pummill), Sarah Dawn Hall (husband, Jason Neil Hall) and Samantha Lou Clark (husband, Steven Patrick Clark Jr.), and grandfather to Addison Catherine Freeman, Austin Thomas Freeman, Avery Olive Freeman, Raelyn Elise Hall, Eloise Pearl Hall, Coralie Mabel Hall, Wyatt Patrick Clark and Rhett Landon Clark, each of whom carries forward his spirit, humor, joy, and curiosity.
Tommy graduated from Hampton High School in 1965, where he served as President of the Chess Club and was known for his intellect, wit, and leadership. He went on to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) from 1965 to 1969, later continuing his education at Christopher Newport College, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and went on to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). While at Virginia Tech he was a proud member of the AKE fraternity (which later became Phi Sigma Kappa), served as lead singer in a band, and was affectionately nicknamed "Spider" by his friends.
Over the course of his life, Tommy wore many hats: CPA, carpenter, coach, father, friend, and mentor. He had a sharp mind, a strong work ethic, and a hands-on spirit that served him well. He was a man of many talents and a lifelong learner.
He made a lasting impact in the community through nearly a decade of coaching with Northampton Little League (1987-1995). In 1993 he led the 10-12 year-old All-Star team to a District 7 Championship on a fantastic run in the state tournament with his motto "You hit the ball, You win the game!"
Tommy was also a member of the Old Point Comfort Exchange Club, where he fostered civic connections and lasting friendships.
In addition to his professional and civic contributions, Tommy led a rich life full of passions. He loved his children and he had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, camping, trips the Outer Banks, baseball, football, horseshoes, shucking oysters, drinking beer, and listening to rock-n-roll music. He was a man that could fix anything, teach you something new, or simply sit and enjoy a quiet moment with you. He had an infectious personality, wonderful sense of humor, and he was the life of the party no matter the audience. It was impossible not to have a good time when you were with Tommy.
A Celebration of Tommy's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. EST on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Weymouth Funeral Home, with an oyster roast to follow in his honor - a fitting tribute to a man who loved good food, good music, and time spent with the people he loved.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who cared for Tommy in his final years, especially his devoted wife, Patty, and the Virginia Health Services Hospice team. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration at. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
