Thomas John Gillespie, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on September 24th in Victoria, Texas, at the age of 60.

Originating from New Zealand, John developed a profound appreciation for life, family, and diligence during his upbringing. Subsequently, he married then relocated to Texas, where he established a fulfilling life alongside his loved ones and became a respected member of the community. John Gillespie married Elida Gillespie on November 6, 2006, in Victoria, Texas. He worked as an owner-operator for 30 years and served as an Oil Field Fleet safety district supervisor for 10 years. His father Jock taught him how to drive a big rig.

John will be remembered as a devoted husband and an incredible father & friend. He was smart, driven, and always ready to share his wisdom, laughter, and love. His presence brought joy and warmth to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his spouse, Elida Gillespie, along with his children, Joshua, Jazmin, Michael, Jodi, Jason, Jessie, Danielle, Ashley, and Abigail; as well as his siblings, Fran Gillespie Horsman, Mary Ann Gillespie, and Tracy Harrison. He took great pride in being a grandfather to Madilyn, Joshua, Emma, and Maddex and had planned to go to New Zealand 2026 to meet his other nine other grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. John is also lovingly remembered by many family members and friends in both Texas and New Zealand who will forever cherish his memory

Thomas John Gillespie was preceded in death by his parents, Jock Charles Gillespie and Queenie-Kuini Panirau-Gillespie; his brother, Charlie Charles Gillespie; and his sisters, Ida Gillespie Wetere and Heather Gillespie Lunjevich.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 4, 2025. A service celebrating John's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4th, Food will then follow behind in hall (Covered Dish are Welcomed please) Grace Funeral Home in Victoria, Texas. Family and friends are invited to honor the life of a man whose love, strength, and spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
