Thomas W. "Tommy" Griffith

With profound love and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Thomas "Tommy" Griffith, who departed this life on February 12, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on January 24, 1953, to Thomas and Elizabeth "Ella" Pennington Griffith, Tommy lived a life filled with faith, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Raised in Charleston, West Virginia, alongside his brother, David Griffith, Tommy graduated from George Washington High School in 1971 and continued his studies, graduating from West Virginia State College with a Bachelor's degree. He carried with him a strong sense of purpose, dedication, and a spirit of generosity that would define his life.
Tommy proudly served his country in both the U.S. Army and Navy, embodying the values of service, courage, and sacrifice. Between his military services, he built a long and fulfilling career at Union Carbide, where he worked with integrity and dedication for 25 years. Tommy also sacrificed his time volunteering for the Civil Air Patrol. In the last 4 years of his life, Tommy worked for Forbes Copper Works where he was a dedicated, respected, and loved leader.
Yet, of all his achievements, Tommy's greatest joy was his family. Tommy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. In 2008, he married the love of his life, Lisa Griffith, with whom he built a beautiful and blended family. Together, they raised four children: Thomas Griffith, Landon Hall (fiancée Brianna Smith), Kameron Hall (wife Ashlyn Hall), and Laurence Hall (wife Sam Hall). Before meeting Lisa, Tommy was blessed with two wonderful children, Matthew Griffith (wife Heather Griffith) and Christy Foltz (husband Ryan Foltz), whom he raised with love and devotion. He is also survived by his brother David Griffith (wife Trena Griffith) and his five precious grandchildren: Aeden Griffith, Nick Foltz, Lochlan Griffith, Lauren Foltz, and Waylon Hall. Each of them was a source of immense joy and pride for him.
More than anything, Tommy was a man of deep faith who served the Lord in music and songwriting all his life. He was a member of Peterstown Christian Church, where he served selflessly. He had a voice that could move hearts and souls, using his incredible gift to spread the gospel through music at churches all around the nation. His songs were more than just melodies; they were messages of love, grace, and hope. But Tommy didn't just sing about faith-he lived it, demonstrating kindness, compassion, and generosity in all that he did. He carried the love of Jesus with him wherever he went, and his presence brought light into the lives of those around him.
Tommy had a rare ability to make people feel valued, seen, and loved. His quick wit and captivating storytelling could turn an ordinary moment into a cherished memory. His laughter was contagious, his heart was so big, and his love was limitless.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00PM on Monday, February 17, 2025, at the Peterstown Christian Church in Peterstown, WV, where family and friends are invited to celebrate Tommy's remarkable life and legacy. Visitation will be held from 5:00PM until time of services on Monday at the church. A private burial will follow at the Old Cabin Ridge Cemetery in Charleston, WV, for close family and friends. The family will be accepting flowers, but would also appreciate monetary donations to help with funeral expenses.
Though his presence will be deeply missed, Tommy leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and faith-one that will continue to shine through the lives of those he loved. His voice may now rest, but his song lives on forever in our hearts.
