Thomas Guthridge Obituary

Thomas J. Guthridge Sr., 80, DuBois, entered peacefully into eternal life on Monday, February 2, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He left with grace on 2/2, as 22 was the number that he cherished his entire life, thus whispering a warm, quiet goodbye.

Born March 8, 1945, in DuBois, he was the son of the late James and Amelia Guthridge.

Thomas graduated from DuBois Area High School, Class of 1963, and later attended Clarion University, where he earned a bachelor's and master's degree in education and was a member of Theta Xi Fraternity. He retired as a school teacher from the Ridgway Area School District, where he was well-loved by countless students and colleagues.

Thomas loved sports, including hunting, fishing, football, baseball/softball, and many others. Of note, as a senior in high school, he was the MVP of his football team and was also named to the All-State Football Team the same year; as described by his head coach, "Pound-for-pound Tom was the toughest player on the squad." His sports career continued throughout his life, highlighted by nine consecutive DuBois Independent Softball League Championships, five consecutive DuBois Flag Football League Championships, and many other DuBois Basketball League Championships as well. His enjoyment of sports also included coaching numerous teams in the DuBois Little League with great success.

Additionally, Thomas had a deep passion for social studies and was highly knowledgeable in all forms of history and political science. He also enjoyed a variety of activities and hobbies, including reading, writing, poetry, music, and especially Elvis Presley.

Above all, Thomas was faithfully devoted to his Lord and fiercely dedicated to his family. He was a member of Treasure Lake Church and Tri-County Church, where he served in various roles over the years. He married his longtime love, Carolyn, on 12/2/22, whom he adored.

Thomas is and always will be the heart of our family, profoundly loved and sorely missed.

Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Guthridge; three children, Kristen (Steve) Mazzaferro, Reynoldsville, Thomas (Christy) Guthridge, Jr., DuBois, and Kari (Seth) Cooper, Cranberry Township; seven grandchildren, Luke and Molly Mazzaferro, Maya, Gavin, and Jaxon Guthridge, and Skye and Legend Cooper; a brother, Gary "Butch" Guthridge; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Ann Bell; an infant grandson, Cove Cooper; and a brother, Jack Guthridge.

Friends and family will be received Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Adamson Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.

A funeral service will be held Friday, February 6, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Treasure Lake Church with Pastor David Ginn officiating.

Interment will follow at Morningside Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Treasure Lake Church or Tri-County Church.

Mr Guthrie was my teacher at ridgway high. We would listen to Elvis at lunch time. He trated me great especially after my mom passed away when I was in ninth grade. I've never forgotten him. My boys also had him in school years later and loved him too. I know that God himself will be at the gates to welcome him to heaven.
