Ditmar “Dick” Guthridge, 77, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026 in his family home.
Dick was born on March 2, 1948, in Wichita, KS to his parents Clifford and Joyce Guthridge. As a child, he spent countless summers building and sailing boats with his grandfather, “Popo Swenson,” who instilled in him a love of family, adventure, and laughter. Dick proudly told stories of how he and Popo sailed and ultimately sank every boat they ever built.
As a young adult, Dick was fun loving and more than a little ornery. He loved fast cars and loud music. He surrounded himself with a rowdy group of friends and together they ran the streets of College Hill.
Then Dick met Rita. It was literally love at first sight... for him... Rita actually stood him up for their first date. Fortunately, she gave him a second chance and they married May 1, 1973. They welcomed their first child, Justin, in 1974 followed by their second son, Zach 8 years later.
Dick and Rita were the perfect team and together they created a loving and active family. Vacations at South Padre Island... weekends at the lake with their Seadoos... Once they had grandchildren, they never missed a band concert, track meet, or dance recital.` Dick’s life centered around his family.
Professionally, Dick had a life long career in construction. Beginning with Guthridge Brothers, a concrete business he started with his brother, Gary. Later, he and Rita grew into Guthridge Company. Finally, in 1986 Dick and his brother in law, Larry Nighswonger, started Guthridge Nighswonger General Contractors. In total, Dick and Rita worked side by side for over 40 years.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Sherry Nighswonger and Gary Guthridge. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Rita Guthridge; sons, Justin (Lori) Guthridge and Zach Guthridge; grandchildren Connor (Maddie), Jack, and Sloane Guthridge; many nieces, nephews, and his beloved Italian greyhound, Maggie May.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday February 12, 2026 at 2:00pm, at the Cozine Life Events Center.
