Thomas Edward Haas

Thomas Edward Haas, age 79, passed away at home on December 9, 2024. Born on October 9, 1945 in Amherst, Ohio, he was the beloved son of Elmer and Marcella Haas.
Thomas is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Janet Haas (Middleton). He was a loving father to Tom (Krista) Haas, and Katie Haas, as well as a cherished grandfather to Rowan and Sloane Haas. He is also survived by his sister, Sue (Ron) Snizek, and beloved "Uncle Tommy" to many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by son, David. He was preceded in death by his son Dann Haas, and his siblings, Elmer Jr., Sally, Mary Lou and Frances.
Tom was born and raised in Amherst, Ohio. He attended St. Joseph School through 8th grade and graduated from Marion L Steele high school in 1963. He started his career as a young stock boy at Sparkle Market, became manager and gained many lifelong friendships from that time. The majority of his career was spent at Drug Mart, originally in Lakewood. He then became a company buyer and district supervisor at numerous locations throughout northern and mid Ohio.
Tom had numerous interests and hobbies. He had a love for cars - old and new - and his Corvette was among his favorites. He enjoyed auto racing events and attended the Indy 500 several times. He also loved and owned horses in his early years. Tom was a Cleveland sports fan with his biggest passion being the Cleveland Browns (despite the ups and downs of the team). His family recalls many Sundays racing home from church in time for kick off. He instilled this passion in both of his children, and loved being at his son, Tom's, rowdy tailgates in the muni lot which guaranteed fun from 7 to 1.
Of all his greatest joys in life, his family was first on that list. There is no Dad more proud and supportive of his children. He attended all of their activities in sports and hobbies, traveled and cheered them on through everything. He found ways to make everything fun and was well known for his humor. He dropped anything he was doing to lend a hand.
Tom was extremely touched by his daughter Katie's decision to move home from Chicago to be with her family. The love and care she provided at home was a blessing. He frequently commented on how relieved and comforted he was to have his children nearby.
Tom's most recent pride and joy was becoming "Grandpa" to Tom and Krista's twins, Rowan and Sloane. The gift of both a grandson and granddaughter was something he cherished and loved watching their personalities develop, even in their first year.
Tom will be remembered for his strength, wonderful wit and sense of humor, and loyalty and dedication to his family above all else.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 6245 Columbia Rd, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070 on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until the start of the memorial service at 6:00 p.m. Thomas will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park at a later date.
