Thomas G. Herrick

Thomas Gillars "Gill" Herrick, age 86, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023. Beloved husband of Marilyn Herrick (nee Horak); loving father of Craig Herrick (Meloney) and Kristen Anderson; dear grandfather of Nicholas Davis (Echo) and Reid and Ian Anderson.
Gill was born in Noranda, Quebec, and moved to Ohio shortly after the end of the Second World War. He graduated from Ashtabula Edgewood High School in 1954 and Kent State University in 1960. After finishing his college education, Gill began a career in sales while attending night classes at Cleveland Marshall Law School. In the spring of 1963, Gill met his soulmate, Marilyn, and they became married in December of that year. Two children soon followed - Craig in 1965 and Kristen in 1967. Even though he achieved much success in his career, Gill always wanted to be his own boss, so in 1978 he purchased a plastics manufacturing company, the first of his many entrepreneurial ventures. Gill was a star athlete who competed in tennis, basketball, softball, and track, and was an avid sports fan who closely followed the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes. Gill also enjoyed coaching his children, especially baseball for his son and softball for his daughter. Gill was an active member of several clubs and organizations, including Sigma Nu Fraternity; the Fraternal Order of Eagles; the Veterans of Foreign Wars; the Chagrin Valley Athletic Club; and The Country Club; and was a benefactor of the DDC Clinic in Middlefield. In his later years, Gill loved nothing better than spending quality time with his family and his dog, Winston.
The family will receive friends at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 95 S. FRANKLIN ST., CHAGRIN FALLS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2023 FROM 11 A.M. TO 2 P.M. Service and burial to be held privately.
