Thomas Hobbs Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Wesley Hobbs, 61, of Warrensburg, Missouri, passed away on January 8, 2026, at St. Luke's Hospice House.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on January 17, 2026, at Northside Christian Church in Warrensburg, Missouri. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with a brief service to follow.
Tom was born on November 25, 1964, in Joplin, Missouri, to Phil and Adrea Hobbs. He was a beloved son, husband, father, Pops, brother, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Adrea Sue Hobbs. He is survived by his wife of nearly 37 years, Kelly Hobbs; his children, Michael Hobbs, Ashley Hobbs Buckner (Taylor), Jarrod Hobbs (Madison), and Harold Foster (Bella); his cherished grandchildren, Wesley, Luca, Scarlett, and Salem; his father, Phil Hobbs; and his brothers, Terry and Tim Hobbs.
For more than 30 years, Tom served as an optometrist and was deeply passionate about restoring people's vision-not only in the physical sense, but also in the spiritual. He used his profession as a ministry, sharing the love and goodness of Jesus both in his local community and abroad. Through mission work in places such as Gonaïves, Haiti, and Texcoco, Mexico, Tom found great joy in meeting the needs of others and building meaningful connections wherever he went.
Tom's life was marked by service, faith, compassion, and an unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Memorial donations may be made in Tom's name to ministries he supported over the years: Living Water Christian Mission (c/o Brian Sevits, P.O. Well ,
I have quite a few memories from working with Tom at Lens Crafters I only had a year with him but he was truly a good person that I felt comfortable talking with ,but he was to me hard to figure out as well. That being said we all picked names out of a bowl for Secret Santa and strangely we both got each other. He didn't put much on his questioner about what he liked and I couldn't read his writing definitely a doctor!!! So I had to sneak around and ask Steff to look at what he wrote it took her a min then she told me it was Bourbon lol I was so damn happy my husband liked bourbon also so my gift was easy. We went to Christmas Party and I had put that I liked ChapStick and boy did I cash in Tom got me the whole store he smiled real cheesy and then said Kelly picked it out I didn't have anything to do with it. But thanks for the Bourbon. It was a great party and I will never forget his since of humor it was like my dad's . Tom you will be missed glad your not in pain anymore and I pray your family and friends remember all the good times you have touched in their lives. Thank you for mine.

The world lost something with this man. He always had jokes was always stubborn and thoughtful all at the same time. Always willing to talk and teach. My heart goes out to you. My husband´s a Cubs fan and said he was the only Cardinals fan he liked... wish Tom could see that ! He was a league of his own league.

My deepest sympathy for the loss of a great guy! I worked with Dr. Hobbs for 2 1/2 years at Lens Crafters. One year he was my Secret Santa. He left little gifts in my locker every week leading up to Christmas. I always felt like he was on my side when we had hard days at work. He also taught me so much about optometry and I appreciated all that he did for me. He will be missed by so many.

Kelly,
As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of God, family and friends. Growing up at church with Tommy was a pleasure and he will be deeply missed. Sending love to you, Phil, Terry and Timmy. Sandy Scribner/Burke

Kelly, my heart goes out to you and your family. May your happy memories outweigh the sadness that you are going through. I was very fortunate to have known Tom and work with him for such a long time. Although the years of life are great, it's the way of life that makes the difference. Don't know how many times we had that discussion. He was always joking, passionate, caring, but never afraid to stand up for what he thought was right. He shared his faith, his wisdom many opinions and encouraged me to look at things in a different light. He was a very good Doctor. He had a very special gift with children. He will be dearly missed by alot of us. I will keep you all in my prayers.
