Thomas Stanley Horton Jr.

Mr. Thomas Stanley Horton Jr.,74 of Senoia formerly of lake Zurich Ill passed away Sunday the 20th of October at home in the presence of his loved ones. Born August 18, 1950 in Ann Arbor Michigan. Parents were the late Thomas S Horton and Polly Hendel Horton.
There are a million things that could be said of his life but know that the greatest joy was his 16 years of service to the inmates of Illinois. He and his wife went into places no one else would go-death row, cells of serial killers, murders, and gang -members any and all- and was beloved by each knowing him as the father they never had. It was through his work with his wife, he created the first ever 4 year Bible college in Illinois at Stateville prison.. Through that, he and his wife were Illinois Department of Corrections volunteers of the year and also Volunteer of the Year for Statesville Maximum Security Prison. His work was never ending with Manny Mill and Burl Cain two of his beloved mentors of prison reform and ministry.
Tom never met a stranger and was commonly known by his wife as "officer friendly." His heart was owned by His Father Jesus Christ and he let everyone know about. Time spent was in prison or with his beloved family.
Both he and his wife were one of the founding families of Willow Creek Church in Barrington Ill.-till God lead them to CrossRoads Church here in Georgia. He always said who could have guessed we'd find another Willow Creek-yet here we did and was embraced by all there. After 71 years in Illinois, he picked Senoia, Georgia, to be his home, where he touched any and all he came in contact with for these short three years. He will be greatly missed by his One Life Fitness family, Willow Creek family, Crossroad's family and many family and friends. But most of all by his wife of almost 56 years, Wendy, who was the love of his life starting at age 17.

The Celebration of Life for Thomas will be Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home 38 Jackson St. Newnan, GA 30263. Pastor Manny Mill and Pastor John Hobbs will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, October 25, 2024 from 5-7 PM.
