Thomas Edward Jones, age 71, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Doctors Hospital in Sarasota, Florida.
Thomas was born on September 5, 1953, to Maude Louise (Frohock) and Thadeus B. Jones, Jr. Tom lived in the Florida panhandle before moving to St. Petersburg, Florida as a child. Tom graduated from Northeast High School in St. Pete in 1971.
He married Dawn Sullivan on November 19, 1988, in Gainesville, Florida. Tom and Dawn moved to North Port, Florida in 1990 where they raised their only child, Erin (Jones) Linser.
Tom worked as a licensed residential contractor and framer who started his own construction business in 1979. When he retired from construction, he became involved in North Port city affairs, serving as a North Port City Commissioner from 2008-2016.
Tom was involved in his community as the President of North Port's Early Bird Kiwanis Club. Tom served on the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council, Manasota League of Cities, Florida League of Cities; served as Kiwanis Advisor for North Port High School's Key Club; and was an active member in the North Port Chamber of Commerce and North Port's Parks and Recreation Committee.
Tom will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, a supportive and proud father, and a mentor to many in North Port.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dawn Jones, and his daughter Erin Linser (Corey) of North Port; along with his sisters, Francis, Terri, Caroline, and brothers Robert and Michael. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and brother Thadeus Jones III.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held at Awaken Church at 390 Flamingo Blvd., Port Charlotte, Florida 33954 on November 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the Jones family requests that donations be made to Awaken Outreach Center/ Hope for Christmas. This fund provides gifts to children who may otherwise receive nothing on Christmas morning.
