Thomas Coyen Ledford III
November 22, 1957 – October 19, 2025
Thomas Coyen Ledford III, 67, of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Logan, West Virginia, passed away on October 19, 2025. He was born in Williamson, West Virginia, on November 22, 1957, and was a 1975 graduate of Logan High School. He later attended Marshall University.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ruth Ann Ledford, and his brother, Jim Ledford. He is survived by his loving wife, Lee Anna Becknell-Ledford of Lexington, KY; his son, Jeremy (Megan) Ledford of Lexington, KY; daughter, Amanda (Aaron) Lester of Justice, WV; stepson, Landon (Haley) Becknell of Lexington, KY; stepdaughter, Hallory Becknell of Lexington, KY; and Brayson Becknell of Lexington, KY. He is also survived by his sister, Cynthia (Mark) Christian of South Point, OH; grandchildren, Ivie and Sterling Ledford, Dylan and Gabe Lester, and Tayler Bowling and Winslee Becknell; and niece and nephew, Kaitlyn and Cole Christian.
Tom had a long and accomplished career that spanned more than 25 years in information technology and management. Early in his professional life, he worked as a mine and safety inspector for Sharples Coal Company in Logan, WV. He later transitioned into the technology field, where he worked as a systems and network administrator for the Commonwealth of Kentucky and served as CIO for the Kentucky League of Cities. In that role, he collaborated with municipal leaders statewide and led numerous successful software development and infrastructure projects. He also worked as a consulting network engineer with the Inacom franchise group and did freelance IT work, gaining valuable experience in both technical operations and leadership.
Before entering the IT field, Tom held a variety of local positions in Logan, including work at Rushden Motors, The Letter Shop, and Silver Brands clothing store during his school years.
A true lover of music, Tom could play nearly any instrument he picked up, most notably the guitar. He was brilliant, witty, and endlessly charming, with a sense of humor and personality that drew people to him. Those who knew Tom will remember his intelligence, laughter, and one-of-a-kind spirit that made every moment with him unforgettable.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., followed by a service at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 25, at Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky.
