In Memoriam: Thomas Lowe
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Lowe, a beloved husband, Navy Veteran, and cherished member of his community. Thomas peacefully departed on January 13, 2024, at the age of 74, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and enduring memories.
Thomas shared 33 beautiful years of companionship with his devoted husband, Andrew Winston. Their enduring bond was a testament to the power of love and commitment. Thomas was born to bring joy into the lives of those around him, and he did so with unwavering dedication.
A proud Navy Veteran, Thomas served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. His commitment to duty and the values of service stayed with him throughout his life. After his military service, Thomas pursued education and obtained a certificate to become a court reporter. His sharp mind and keen understanding of medical terminology made him a sought-after professional in cases related to medical topics. Lawyers frequently sought his expertise, recognizing his exceptional skill and dedication to his work.
Beyond the courtroom, Thomas was a man of many passions. A skilled bowler and a genius euchre player, he found joy and camaraderie in these activities. His culinary talents were nothing short of legendary, with a particular flair for crafting delicious soups. Influenced by the traditions passed down from his grandmothers and aunts in the South, Thomas's culinary creations left a lasting impression on all fortunate enough to taste them.
Thomas had a deep appreciation for classic movies and television, relishing in the nostalgia provided by Turner Classic Movies and MeTV. He took pride in his cars, cherished the companionship of his beloved late Dobermans, Zula and Blue, and hosted memorable Dream Cruise parties.
Known for his thoughtfulness, intelligence, and storytelling prowess, Thomas was a true friend to many. He would generously make soup for friends and family in times of illness and always extended a helping hand to those in need. His love for literature, particularly the works of John Grisham, showcased his intellectual curiosity.
Thomas's love for travel took him on unforgettable journeys, including cruises to Alaska and the Caribbean. His enthusiasm for exploration led him to revisit Alaska and savor its beauty once more.
Thomas is survived by his devoted husband, Andrew Winston, and will be fondly remembered as a wonderful uncle by his two nieces, Nicole and Allison. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Carol (Matt) Surella.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in memory of Thomas to be directed to the Wounded Warriors Project, a cause that held special meaning for him.
Visitation to celebrate Thomas's life will take place at the O'Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Let us join together to honor and remember the remarkable life of Thomas Lowe, a man whose legacy of love and kindness will endure in our hearts forever.

My heart aches at the loss of Tom. Not only that he is gone but, of course, for Andrew. The two of you were always so kind to Debbie and I. We're grateful that my sister, Chris, invited us over to your place for the Woodward Cruise. Once we attended that first time around 2004(?), we were hooked and spent many years on the front lawn of your home on Woodward. Thanks for letting us park our Corvette on your front lawn. It looked great with that V12 Jaguar your friend had.

Of course, we saw both of you at other functions like at Chris' Euchre parties and even running into you at the store but you always had a special place in our hearts and we feel heavy with loss today.

Thinking back on my childhood, some of the most treasured memories are the ones I shared with my Uncle Tom. From laughter-filled cheesecake adventures to wise words of guidance, whether he ever knew it or not, the lessons he imparted became the building blocks for the person I am today. Uncle Tom would turn every holiday into a magical experience for us kids. From festive decorations to thoughtful surprises, his efforts made holidays not just events but cherished memories that are a testament to the unique and irreplaceable role he played in shaping my childhood years. Uncle Tom had this incredible knack for making me feel genuinely special. To me he was so much more than Uncle Tom, he was a true father figure and I am grateful for every moment shared.

Loved eating fish sticks and watching the tv with him. He always had a jolly laugh and a kind giving heart. Tom was a wonderful part of our family and always made our holidays very special. Very blessed and grateful to have him a part of my life.
