Thomas Donald Lundstrum, 86, of Springdale, Arkansas, passed away on February 28, 2026, at 7:17 p.m. in Springdale. Tom was born November 18, 1939, in Joplin, Missouri, to Nelson Edward Lundstrum and Addie Mae (Bigley) Lundstrum. He was blessed with 14 brothers and sisters, of whom Tom was the last surviving.
Tom’s family moved often in search of work, resulting in his attending 13 different schools before graduating from Sarcoxie High School in Sarcoxie, Missouri, in 1957.
After a three-year term of active duty in the Mediterranean as a jet engine mechanic aboard the aircraft carrier USS Essex as a proud United States Marine, Tom returned to Missouri. There he met and married Joyce Shell on January 6, 1962. She was his beloved wife for 56 years until her passing in October 2018. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Joyce.
Sons Tom (1963) and Brent (1966) completed the family, which moved to Springdale, Arkansas, in 1972. After working for Tayloe Paper Company and Polar Express Trucking, Tom and Joyce opened Southland Supply Company, a janitorial supply distributorship, in 1977. Southland grew to four locations in Arkansas and Missouri before being sold in 1996. In 1993, the couple founded ChemStation of the Ozarks, which continues to be operated by the family with offices in six states.
A man of many interests and talents, “Big Tom” could sing, draw, paint, fix nearly anything, and turn wood with skill. He served as a volunteer officer in both the Johnson and Elm Springs Police Departments, as a two-term Mayor of Elm Springs, and as a twelve-year justice of the Peace on the Washington County Quorum Court. Something of a Renaissance man, he was self-taught in Biblical Greek and Hebrew and held an honorary doctorate in theology from Ecclesia College. He faithfully served as a teaching elder at Sovereign Grace Fellowship for 20 years.
Most importantly, Tom was a sinner saved by the sovereign grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ alone, whom he unashamedly worshiped and proclaimed as his Lord and Savior. He trusted fully in the finished work of Christ — not in his own works — for his righteousness before God. On February 28, 2026, at 7:17 p.m. Tom entered the presence of the Lord and was made perfectly conformed to the image of Christ, as promised in Romans 8:29. As Charles Spurgeon wrote, “We shall not only see Him, but we shall be like Him.”
He is survived by his two sons, Tom and Robin Lundstrum of Springdale, Arkansas, and Brent and Cathy Lundstrum of Bentonville, Arkansas; his grandchildren, London and Tyler Gibbs of Boston, Massachusetts; Gracie and Jacob Lively of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Luke and Lau Lundstrum of Fayetteville, Arkansas; David and Katie Lundstrum of Springdale, Arkansas; and Isaac and Katie Lundstrum of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and five great-grandchildren, Max Lively, Annemarie Lively, Drake Lundstrum, Jack Lively, and Conley Lundstrum.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Cross Church, 1709 Johnson Road, Springdale, Arkansas. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel prior to the service. Burial will follow at Elm Springs Cemetery in Elm Springs, Arkansas.
The family requests that donations be made to Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Arkansas.
