Thomas F. McCarthy of Cornelius, NC passed away on December 13, 2023, after a short illness. Tom was born in Buffalo, NY on March 12, 1942, to William and Mary McCarthy.   Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Maureen Anderson. Tom is survived by his beloved wife, Ann, his daughters Kelly, Kristin and Heather, Kelly’s husband Craig, his grandchildren Rence, Reed, James, Jackson, Johnny and Presley, and his niece and nephews Colleen, Tom and Chris along with their families.   Tom was raised in Auburn, NY where he was a star athlete at Mount Carmel. He attended and played basketball at Niagara University and then received his Masters in Psychology from Syracuse University. An Army veteran, he served his country with distinction as a military police officer at Ft. Leavenworth during the Vietnam War. After the Army, Tom had a successful career in human resources and volunteered as a mentor to at-risk youth while raising his family in Farmington, CT.   Fiercely proud of his 3 daughters, Tom celebrated their accomplishments and always provided them with unwavering support and thoughtful guidance.   He loved his life with Ann on Lake Norman and treasured their many incredible travel adventures together. An avid golfer, Tom always enjoyed his time (both on and off the links) with that special group of friends. His quick wit and sarcasm were appreciated and led to many clever bantering sessions- and lots of laughter.   Those who knew Tom considered themselves lucky and will miss him a great deal. A farewell to Tom will be held Sunday December 17 from 5-7 pm at Raymer-Kepner Funeral Home in Huntersville, NC. Please join family and friends to celebrate Tom’s life and share a story. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice.
