Thomas McDonald

Thomas "Tom" McDonald, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on April 24, 1941, to the late Russell and Valeria (Starr) McDonald, Tom's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his country, his work, and his family, whom he provided for with steadfast commitment and love.

Tom's journey began in the halls of Beal City High School, where he graduated before answering the call to serve his nation in the United States Army. He married the love of his life Lauralyn (Chase) McDonald on May 19, 1967.

Following his military service, Tom embarked on a distinguished career as a blueprint technician at Oldsmobile, where he dedicated over 37 years of his life before retiring.

Not one to remain idle, Tom also found joy and purpose in his role as a partner and grounds supervisor for the English Inn, where his love for the outdoors could flourish.

In addition to his work with the English Inn, Tom's commitment to the green and open spaces he loved, led him to a parallel career at Michigan State University in the Turf Center for 21 years.

Tom's love for the outdoors was rivaled only by his passion for Michigan State University sports. He was a strong provider for his family, ensuring that their needs were always met with love and dedication.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Janet, and his beloved wife of 47 years, Lauralyn. He is survived by his fiancé, Jan Lodes, 3 sons, Michel of Lansing, Shawn of Ypsilanti, and Daniel of Holt; 2 granddaughters, Eliza and Amelia McDonald; three brothers, Don (Maxine) McDonald, Bill McDonald, and John (Sharon) McDonald; four sisters, Mary Lynn (Tom) Bott, Susanne (Tom) Courser, Linda (Gary) Ray, and Marsha McDonald, along with many loving cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 4:30-6:30 PM at the Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Holt Chapel. Tom will be laid to rest at Dimondale Cemetery.
