Thomas Paul McKenney, age 72, of Holly, MI died January 14, 2025. A funeral service is planned for Friday, January 17, 2025 at 1 PM at Dryer Funeral Home in Holly, MI. Visitation will be from 3PM until 7PM on Thursday and again from 12 noon until time of service on Friday. Tom was born the fourth of six children in Flint, MI to Robert and Virginia McKenney, on March 21, 1952. After graduating from Holly High School in 1970, Tom attended the University of Notre Dame. He then took a year to travel before attending Detroit College of Law (now part of Michigan State University), where he followed in his father's footsteps to practice law. After having graduated from Michigan State University Detroit College of Law, he joined his father's law practice at McKenney & McKenney. He also worked as a real estate attorney for Kmart Corporation from 1982-1983. He married Jane Wilson on October 1, 1982 in Fenton, MI. Tom worked for Gault Davison of Flint, MI before joining Kohl Secrest of Farmington Hills, MI from 1989-2000. In 2000, Tom opened his own law practice, McKenney & McKenney focused on estate planning, where he was able to prioritize personalized service for his clients and have more time with his family. He also served as Councilman for the Village of Holly from 2016-2018 and President of the Village Council from 2010-2012 and 2020-2022. Tom served on the State Bank of Fenton Board of Directors beginning in 1991. He served as Chairman of the State Bank Board from 2001-2003. In 1992 he became Director of Fentura Bancorp and served as Chairman of Fentura from 2011-2021. Tom was proud of his Irish and Italian heritage and enjoyed making homemade pasta and sauce from cherished family recipes, hosting and entertaining countless family and friends, and had a deep appreciation for music of all types. He prided himself on being the consummate host to all, taking in "strays" during Thanksgiving and Christmas, and hosting a massive Christmas Eve party every year. A lifelong Notre Dame fan, he rooted for the Fighting Irish, Michigan State and anyone playing against the University of Michigan. Tom was a member of the Holly Kiwanis for over 40 years, where he was involved in the production and sale of the Goodfellow Newspaper, which supports needy children in the Holly area. He was also a published writer contributing annually to the Holly Kiwanis Goodfellow Newspaper, where his articles were featured on the front page and profiled notable families and individuals from the Holly community. Tom was also published in professional journals including Municipal Law Section Report of the State Bar of Michigan. Tom is survived by his wife Jane, children Paul McKenney of Brooklyn, NY, Ann Marie (Keith Johnson) McKenney of Westerville, OH, Anthony McKenney of Lansing, Joseph McKenney of Holly, his siblings Patrick (Susan) McKenney of Linden, Maureen (David) White of Webster NY, Timothy (Marianne) of Carrollton, TX. Tom is also survived by his granddaughter July Josephine McKenney-Johnson and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins from his large loving family. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Virginia McKenney, and by his brothers, Michael McKenney and Father William G. McKenney, S.J.
