Thomas P. McManus, of Hatboro, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at his residence. He was 83 years old. Tom, as he was known by his family and friends, was born in Philadelphia on July 9, 1940 to the late George and Margaret (née Veasey) McManus. He was the husband to Frances M. (née McClure) McManus with whom he is survived by. Tom and his wife were residents of Philadelphia for over 70 years until residing in Hatboro, living with their daughter and her family.
Upon graduation from Father Judge High School in Philadelphia, he proudly served in the United States Navy. He then worked as a police officer for the Pennsylvania State Police and served in the Philadelphia Police Department for over 25 years. Upon retirement, he immediately began working for the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission as a trucking enforcement officer for several years. Then, he worked as a school bus driver for First Student for a while.
Tom was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, in particular the Eagles and his beloved Phillies. He spent every night from Spring Training until the final day of the World Series watching ballgames with his beloved wife Fran. As a huge baseball enthusiast, he volunteered for many years as a youth baseball coach, in particular, working with high school and college age young men. When his coaching days were completed, he then turned his attention to umpiring American Legion and high school baseball for the PIAA.
While proudly serving in the Navy, he discovered two of his lifelong passions, photography and aviation. Throughout his life, he was fortunate to combine the two in traveling to many airports, airfields, and aviation museums throughout the country. Many of his photographs of airplanes, both military and civilian have received publications and accolades over the years.
Along with his wife Frances, Tom is survived by his children: Thomas M. McManus (Kimberly), Kathleen M. Poterjoy (Brandon), and his grandchildren: Cheyanne McManus, Brendan McManus, Dylan McManus, Kaitlyn Smith, Braeden Poterjoy, MaryFrances Poterjoy, and Thomas Poterjoy. He was the brother to George McManus, Margaret Pitcher, and Roseann Szabo.
