It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Thomas P. McMullen, 78, on February 21, 2025. Tom fought a gallant fight against Lewy Body Dementia and pneumonia, but he finally succumbed.
Tom was a cherished husband, father, Pops, and friend, who had a profound impact on all who knew him. He loved sports, particularly tennis and paddle tennis and was always kind, generous, and smiling.
Tom grew up in Maplewood, NJ and graduated from Columbia High School (1964). He went on to graduate from Drew University (1968) and the Wharton School of Business (1970), Tom was a resource to all who crossed his path. Tom settled in Bergen County after graduate school, first in Glen Goin, Alpine, NJ, and then Cresskill, NJ in 1974. An avid traveler, Tom loved vacations in Cape Cod, MA, Maui, HI, and anywhere tropical, along with business and personal trips around the world.
Tom lived most of his adult life in Cresskill working within the consumer goods industry with Post cereal, Lipton, General Foods, and others, but did live in Beijing, China, from 1995-2000, running the Chinese beer company Five Star Beer (Wu Xing Piiju). Upon returning from China, Tom served as President and General Manager of furniture manufacturer Maywood Furniture Corp until his retirement.
Tom is survived by:
• His wife, Shelley.
• Daughter, Jennifer (Sherborn, MA) and her husband, Nate Root, and their two daughters, Loren and Mia.
• Son, Colin (Branchburg, NJ) and his wife Jessica (Sandfort), and their three sons, Liam, Henry, and Andrew.
• Sister, Martha Rice (Missoula, MT)
Tom will be forever remembered for his humor and his beautiful smile. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A memorial service will be held at:
Knickerbocker Country Club, Tenafly NJ
March 29, 2025 from 12-3PM.
