It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas Frederick Mealey Jr., known to his friends and family as Tom, who left us peacefully on July 30, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 8, 1937, in Worcester, Massachusetts, Tom relocated to Evanston, Wyoming in 1977 as a fresh law school graduate. He quickly became a beloved figure in the community, working as a social worker, deputy county attorney, defense attorney, and municipal court judge before being appointed Uinta County Judge in 1988. He served with dedication until his retirement in 2007.
Outside of his impressive legal career, Tom was passionate about jazz music. An accomplished musician and educator, he shared his love of music with countless students and helped shape local music programs, always encouraging creativity and talent in others. He lived life by the mantra "Just be kind to people," a principle that guided his interactions daily. Tom had a unique gift for making friends and connecting with everyone he met, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and generosity.
Surviving Tom are his his loving wife, Fay Mealey; son, Terry Mealey; daughter-in-law Jennifer Mealey his grandchildren, Parker and Taylor Mealey.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Tom's graveside services, which will be held on August 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Evanston City Cemetery, 526 County Rd., Evanston, WY 82930.
Tom will be deeply missed, but his spirit and kindness will continue to inspire those who knew him. Thomas was preceded in death by: his father Thomas, mother Gertrude, brother Edward, and sister Anne.
