Thomas Douglas "Tom" Murphy, 87, of Pink Hill, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at the home of his niece, Debbie Cavenaugh. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Carl Murphy; mother, Winnie Mae Batts Murphy; sisters: Maggie Crumpler, Gladys 'Bear' Casper & Sarah Louise Hancock; brothers: Wesley 'Popeye' Murphy, Winston 'Wick' Murphy, & Leslie 'Teeter' Murphy; his first wife, Arlene 'Nudy' Murphy; second wife: Elizabeth 'Denise' Murphy; and son, Thomas 'Wade' Murphy.
Tom served his country in the United States Navy, was a member of American Legion Post 379 and was instrumental in the Wreaths Across America Program at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. He was the first to help with community benefits to help those in need.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Regina 'Leigh' Williams of Seven Springs; grandsons, Thomas 'Devin' Murphy & wife Jackie of Deep Run and Timmy Lee Williams & wife, April of Seven Springs; great grandchildren; Jasmine 'Scootie' Kirk, Dekota 'Bubba' Williams, & Jaylen 'Monkey' Williams; sisters: Bonnie Murphy (Donald) of Pink Hill & Mary 'Tiny' Rogers of Kinston; brothers: Chesley 'Check' Murphy of Pink Hill, Lawrence Maready (Diane) of Albertson, & Timmy Brinson of Deep Run; special niece: Debbie Cavenaugh & husband Tom Cavenaugh and their children, Brittany Barrier (Kyle), Jeremy Cavenaugh (Emilee), Bradley Miller (Rhaine) and special great niece and nephews, Bryson and Bella Miller and Jordan Barrier.
A special thank you to Nan, Heather, Brenda, Seth and the Gentiva family, to Bailey VanderBogart for her help, and to Katrina Brown and the Physicians East - Beulaville family for their assistance.
Funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Pink Hill Funeral Home with visitation following the service. Burial will be held at 11;00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025 at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill.
