George Murphy

George Doyle Murphy, age 83, of Potter, Arkansas died Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at the National Park Medical Center in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was born on Saturday, April 11, 1942, to John Wesley and Cora Rowena Fallis Murphy in Potter, Arkansas.

George was a man who lived by the words, "To do what I can, and what I can't; forget about it," and carried that spirit of peace and resilience throughout his life. A devoted Christian, he found comfort in his faith and joy in the simple blessings each day brought. George had a deep love for music, teaching himself to play the guitar entirely by ear. He spent countless hours playing old country and gospel tunes, especially when performing with local bands. He loved the outdoors-fishing, mowing his yard, and spending time in nature were among his favorite pastimes. Above all, George treasured his family, and nothing brought him more pride than being a grandfather. His grandchildren were his heart, and the time he spent with them was the joy of his life. To all who knew him, George was a man of strength, humility, and grace-a walking miracle who left behind a legacy of love, music, and faith. If you seen George, he usually had one or the other in his hands: a fishing pole, a guitar, or a youngin.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Walter "Sonnie" Murphy and J.R. "Jake" Murphy; four sisters, Mary V. Bain, Ruby Spencer, Betty Jo Hammond, and Orbra Hamner.

George is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Murphy; his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Mandy Murphy; two sisters and brother-in-law, Charlotte Mayfield, and Fern and Loyd Knight; his grandchildren, Krystall Faye Cassels and family, Wesley "Kyle" Murphy and family, Kayla Nobles and family, Tyler Randall Murphy and family, Colby Shawn Murphy and family, and Darin Wade Maxwell ; 14 great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with Brother Troy Denton officiating. Interment will follow the service at Rocky Cemetery in Rocky, Arkansas, under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas. A visitation will be held Friday, July 18, 2025, from 5-7 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena, Arkansas.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Murphy, Pete Crawford, Sam Waters, Hunter Waters, Tim Murphy, and Garrett Murphy.

Honorary Pallbearers are Norm Morgan, Wayne Putman, Don Squires, Vernon Wells and Lloyd Knight.
