Thomas Francis O'Grady, of Bonita Springs, Florida, passed away with family by his side April 19, 2025. Thomas was age 83. He bravely endured a battle with Parkinson's Disease and lived his life to the fullest despite progressive physical limitations.
Born on March 21, 1942, in Brooklyn, New York, Thomas was the eldest son of Irish Immigrants Thomas O'Grady and Mary (O'Loughlin) O'Grady. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Brendan and his wife Joanne O'Grady and brother Martin O'Grady. He is survived by his brother Kevin O'Grady his wife Terry and sister Maureen Boucher and husband John-Paul. Thomas and his three brothers and "baby" sister primarily lived in Jackson Heights New York. He and his family enjoyed the beach at Rocky Point on Long Island NY when his Father, "Pop" purchased a beach house on Sky Road. He attended Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn and served as President of his Senior class. He graduated from Manhattan University in New York City where he was an active member of Alpha Sigma Beta fraternity and member of the Honorary Pen and Sword society.
Thomas began his professional journey at SeaTrain Shipbuilding and later held positions at NBC Studios, Radio City Music Hall, U.S. Trust, and Verizon. Throughout his career, he was known as a mentor to many and a friend to all who had the pleasure of working with him. Tom was a member of the Knight's of Columbus and a Rotarian. Tom was a kind, sincere man of integrity and never had a harsh word to say. He quietly lent a hand to those in need, never needing recognition or praise.
On August 21, 1965 Tom married his one true love Denise Frances Tobin at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Brooklyn NY. Together they raised two daughters, Denise O'Grady, MD married to Todd Loomis and Joy O'Grady. PhD. married to Christopher Kantzer. He was "PopPop" to his cherished grandchild Rowan Clare Kantzer.
Thomas had a deep appreciation for his Irish Heritage. Lively music was always playing and he encouraged daughters Denise and Joy to become Irish Step Dancers. He delighted in gatherings with family friends and his home was welcome to all. Tom loved a good story and was known for his laugh. A devoted fan of the New York Giants and Yankees, he found joy in cheering on his favorite sport teams season after season. He loved traveling and was fortunate to see many places with family and friends. Highlights included Irish isles, Europe, Russia, Prague, Thailand, The Panama Canal, Peru, Caribbean, and Mexico.
Tom's warmth, generosity, and enduring spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.
Donations in his memory may be made to AVOW Hospice in Naples Florida, Parkinson's Foundation of South West Florida or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
