David W. Carlton, 89, of
Bonita Springs, Florida, left us peacefully to go home with the Lord with his family by his side on July 14, 2025. Born in Marion, Indiana to Helen P. (Stahr) and Harry Easter Carlton, David live a life marked by dedication to faith, family, and community service. He was preceded in death by his parents and by brother Richard S. Carlton.
A proud graduate of Indiana University School of Business in May 1958, David married his college sweetheart, Marcella (Marcie) Robinson, in June of that year. Their enduring partnership spanned 67 years, filled with love, adventure, and family.
They moved to New Albany, IN where David began his career in the Robinson family business Robinson Nugent Inc., where he soon became a Senior Executive. He was very active with community organizations and served for many years with Joseph Rauch Inc. Center for those with disabilities among many others. He served as President of the Indiana University Varsity Club, reflecting his passion for his alma mater. His leadership extended to public service when appointed by the Indiana governor to the State Gaming Commission. He was a member of St. Johns Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon.
David was an athlete and was an avid runner into his 70's, but it was golf that topped his list of sports activities and he played regularly. He demonstrated his immense patience as he taught his two young daughters to play golf and instilled a love for the game in them. He enjoyed many golf trips with his friends to top golf designations around the world. He and Marcie also enjoyed several incredible adventures together; from walking the Great Wall in China, touring behind the Berlin Wall, to all over Europe, Australia and New Zealand. His favorite was the African Safari with the hot air balloon ride over the game park.
David and Marcie were "snow birds" for many years before making
Bonita Springs, FL their permanent home. David was very active in his second home as well, serving on the board of their condominium and assisting with other local charities. David was deeply engaged in Christian fellowship and a devoted member of the Men's Group in his neighborhood.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marcie: daughters Jan Stonikas (Bob)- Greensboro, Ga and
Bonita Springs, Fl, and Kim Schoettle (Tom) of San Diego, Ca : grandchildren Alexandra Stonikas of Chicago, Il, Robert Stonikas of Atlanta, Ga, Haley (Stonikas) Hove (Keith) of Dunwoody, Ga, David Stonikas, of Naples, Florida, Thomas Schoettle (Kelsey) and Nicholas Schoettle both of San Diego, Ca, 2 beautiful great grandchildren and 2 dear nieces. David also leaves behind countless friends who cherished his great sense of humor, his warmth, kindness and generosity.
David's legacy of integrity, faith, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held in January 2026 (DTBD) in Bonita Springs,
