It is with the heaviest heart that we inform our community of the sudden passing of our beloved son Thomas Michael Pratt, age six, on October 30th, 2025.
Thomas is the fiercely loved son of Dave Pratt and Erin Cain and the big brother of Maggie Mae Pratt. He was born on June 26th, 2019, just prior to a summer lightning storm blowing over Lake Champlain. Thomas' happiness and smile were contagious, adding light wherever he went. Thomas' passions and interests were diverse and still developing.
Thomas was an aspiring magician, a role model for his younger cousins, and a friend to many. He loved going to school and being a teammate on his t-ball, basketball, and soccer teams. He could also be found tussling with his cousins at any given time. Thomas developed a love for reading early in life and loved lying with his mom, reading two books before bed. He was a self-proclaimed "cat guy" and loved to be cozied into a nest to watch a show or movie with his family. Thomas loved going golfing with his dad and uncles, and was really starting to tap into the power of his "Tommy juice". If Thomas wasn't at home hanging with his family, he was likely at his Grandma and Grandpa Pratt's house working on his beloved Lego kit collection or scouring the beach at his Grandy and Papa's for dinosaur fossils and lake glass. Thomas had an endless curiosity and zest for soaking up all that life had to offer. It is not possible to mention all of the qualities and interests that made Thomas the wonderful and unique individual that he was.
One of Thomas' great passions was listening to and creating stories. He listened to a podcast, "Super Great Kid Stories," daily and thoroughly enjoyed every listening moment. Instead of flowers, we request that anyone with children in their life sign up and support this excellent storytelling platform.
Thomas is survived by his sister and parents, his Grandparents, Nancy and Randy Pratt, Laurie Fleming and Tom Wilson, Joanne Wells, and Great Grandmother Helen Antonovich, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Thomas was predeceased by his late grandfathers, Michael Cain and Thomas Hengel, his namesakes, as well as his Great Grandparents Frank and Mary Jane Cain, Bud and Mae Hengel, Robert Antonovich, and William and Peggy Pratt.
We are so thankful to the healthcare professionals who tried with all their might to save our little boy, including Fairfax Rescue, NMC staff, UVMMC staff, and our brave neighbors.
A brief service will be held at Holy Family in Essex at 3 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2025, followed by a celebration of Thomas' life next door until 7 p.m. All are welcome.
