Thomas "Tom" M. Rottel age 87, and a longtime resident of Amherst, passed away Monday, October 20, 2025 surrounded by his loving family at Avon Oaks Caring Community.
Tom was born October 25, 1937 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Michael and Rose (nee Biamonte) Rottel. He was a 1957 graduate of John Marshall High School. Tom served in the United States Army from 1960 through 1966. Throughout his working career he was a member of UFCW Local 880 and worked at the former Pick-n-Pay (1960-1963) as a produce clerk, Meyer Goldberg, Lorain (1963-1979) as the produce manager and then in 1979 through 2020 he was co-owner of Vermilion Farm Market until his retirement. From 1966 through 1994 he owned Rottel's Greenhouse in Olmsted Falls, where he raised annual flowers. Tom was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst.
Survivors include his three children, Thomas J. Rottel of Lorain, Marybeth (Stephen "Munch") Hicks of Lorain, Annemarie Rottell of Amherst, 4 grandchildren; Peyton Voll (Mitch), Emery Hicks, Charley Hicks, and Regina Hicks, and great-granddaughter Paisley Mitchell.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife Rose Marlene (nee Coniglio) (2013) and his sister Ann Rottell (2003).
Friends received Thursday, October 23, 2025 at Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Avenue, Amherst from 4-7 p.m. The funeral mass will take place 2 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst with Rev. Timothy O'Connor, pastor, officiating. Everyone please meet at church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Amherst.
