Tom Schloeder, age 93 of Litchfield, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at the Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield surrounded by his loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the Church of St. Philip in Litchfield. A visitation will be held from 4-8 PM on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the Church of St. Philip with an 8:00 PM prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service. Military Honors will be provided by the Litchfield Military Honor Guard. The service will be livestreamed at www.johnsonhagglund.com
Thomas Henry Ludwig Schloeder, the son of Micheal and Lucetta (Wegler) Schloeder was born in Eden Lake Township on June 14, 1930 and graduated from Eden Valley High School in 1948. In 1949 he joined the Navy and served in the reserves for six additional years. On November 3, 1951 he married Laura Mae Rose Ackerman at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. They lived in Willmar and Appleton before moving to Litchfield in 1957. Tom worked as a Northwestern Bell telephone lineman for 30 years, before retiring in 1991. He also worked for Cargill, Johnson Hagglund Funeral Home and mowed and cared for the Calvary Cemetery. Laura passed away on January 13, 1986. On June 26, 2004, Tom married Darlene Fitzloff at the Augustana Memorial Chapel in Litchfield, MN. Tom enjoyed being active in his church and community. He was a member of the Church of St. Philip. He really enjoyed working with the Saint Philips children, when they helped him clean up Calvary Cemetery. He volunteered at the food shelf and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Litchfield Lions Club, the Navy Club and served on the rescue squad for 25 years. Tom was an avid big game hunter, enjoying caribou, bear and elk hunting trips; and went on many Alaska salmon and halibut fishing trips. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, gardening, working in his yard, splitting wood, camping, fixing things, telling stories and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Schloeder of Litchfield, children Micky (Hap) Hildebrand of Springfield, Tim Schloeder of Hutchinson, Patty (Craig) Cram of Litchfield, John (Danette) Schloeder of Alaska, Tammy (Dan) Behnke of Litchfield, step-daughter April Fitzloff (Micheal Mandsager) of Northfield and step-son Aaron Fitzloff (Amber Young) of Woodbury; eight grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren; brother and sisters Lou Ann Sturges of Salem, OR, Bill Schloeder of Federal Way, WA; sisters-in-law Babe Schloeder of Richmond and Mary Ackerman of Cokato.
He was preceded in death by his parents Michael and Lucetta; first wife Laura Mae Schloeder; daughter-in-law Shirley Schloeder; brother Bob and Barbara Schloeder; sister-in-law Jackie Schloeder; sister Patricia Chaves; brother Richard Schloeder; sister and brother-in-law Janet Paul and Jim Paul; sister and brother-in-law Bernice and Stan Kalinowski; sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Marvin Adolph; brother-in-law Swede Ackerman; brother-in-law Mike Ackerman; sister and brother-in-law Blondie and Claud Mohs and sister and brother-in-law Bobby and Marvin Sikkla.
