Thomas (“Tom”) Drennan Selgas, Sr.

Thomas (“Tom”) Drennan Selgas, Sr., beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, at the age of 85. He lived a remarkable life filled with love, learning, adventure, and laughter.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Armand (“Al”) and Grace Selgas, his loving wife, Anne, and his siblings, James Selgas and Rosemarie Cordes. He is survived by his brother, Al Selgas, his devoted partner, Joycelyn Marshall; his children, Thomas Selgas, Jr. and his wife Michelle, Kathleen Chester and her husband Mark, and Christine Muhart and her husband Keith; his grandchildren, Meagan, Paden, Leah, Krista, and Carly; and his great-grandchildren, Liam, Bailey, Felicity, Rosalie, Daphne, Clara, Archer, and Eleanor.

Tom was born in February, 1940, in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in Baldwin, New York. He earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University and later a graduate degree in Business Administration from Case Western Reserve. Throughout his career at Eastman Kodak, Tom took on numerous roles, including a life-changing international assignment in London, England in 1976. It was there that he met and married Anne, the love of his life. Together, they eventually returned to Rochester, New York, where they finished out their careers at Kodak.

In 2009, Tom and Anne moved to San Diego, California, where they enjoyed retirement, family, and unforgettable travels to places most only dream of. Tom had an insatiable curiosity and a thirst for knowledge, becoming a Certified Public Accountant, earning his stockbroker’s license, and constantly reading about history, travel, foreign languages, and more.

It was months after Anne's tragic death in 2020 that Tom would meet Joycelyn and they became fast companions. Tom lovingly shared his passions for travel, the symphony, the theatre, and so much more with Joycelyn, enriching her life and deepening the bond they shared. Together, they embraced life with curiosity and laughter, creating countless joyful memories.

Tom was known for his resilience in the face of hardship and for always finding the good in others. His kindness, generosity, wit, and deep love for his family defined him. Being a husband and father/grandfather brought him immense pride and joy, and his presence was a source of strength and comfort to those around him.

The family extends heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love and sympathy during this time. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the San Diego Center for the Blind https://forms.sdcb.org/forms/donate or to the Informed Prostate Cancer Support Group at https://ipcsg.org/#21e8bd64-f27a-42ed-90c4-acd8f5653958

Tom was a bright, loving, and witty soul until the very end—and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
