Thomas J. Sherman

Thomas J. Sherman, 79, of Waretown, NJ passed away on September 10, 2025 at Inova Alexandria Hospital, Alexandria, VA.

He was a graduate of Trenton State College, now known as The College of New Jersey, and earned his Masters of Educational Administration and Supervision Degree from Newark State College, now known as Kean University.

Mr. Sherman spent his entire career in Manalapan-Englishtown Schools where he served the district for 37 years as a 6th grade teacher, assistant principal, and ultimately, principal. He was devoted to youth sports; he spent many years volunteering as a youth soccer coach (capturing the NJ state championship in 1985), as well as umpiring youth baseball and refereeing youth basketball.

In his retirement, he enjoyed many happy times in Arlington, Virginia and summers at the shore in Waretown with his wife, Beth. He was selfless - lovingly helping to care for his grandchildren and godson, as well as others, over the years. His greatest pleasures in life were spending time with his wife, children and grandkids, watching their youth sports and activities, boating on Barnegat Bay, playing Legos and games, cheering for the Yankees, and enjoying a good ice cream treat. His boundless energy was surpassed only by the joy and excitement his grandchildren experienced surrounded by their Pop.

He was predeceased by his brother, Mickey Sherman, and sister-in-law, Edna Sherman; his parents, Maurice Sherman and Lillian (Biddy) Crawford Sherman; and his stepdaughter, Jodi Pike.

Surviving are his wife, Beth Sherman; his son, Brian Sherman and wife Stephania; his daughter, Nancy Dragone and husband Jeff; his stepdaughter, Rena Kramer and husband Josh; his grandchildren, Kylee and Cayden Sherman, Warner and Will Dragone, Bram and Jace Kramer, and Bailey and Claire Rosenau; his godson, David Glass; his former wife, Judith Sherman; and his dear cousins.

Visitation will be held at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 189 Gill Lane, Iselin.
