Thomas William Smith, 73, of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 4, 2024.
Born on January 1, 1951, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Thomas was the son of William and Carmon (Erickson) Smith. He grew up in Rockwell City and Perry, Iowa, before moving to Wisconsin. As a youth he loved fishing, being outdoors and was known for his mischievous nature. Thomas matured into a free spirit with a zest for life. On September 19, 1970, Thomas married Lucille Kedrowski, and to this union, 2 sons were born, Dallas and David. Thomas and Lucille later divorced but remained friends.
Thomas had a keen interest in building computers, bowling, learning about history, and listening to music. His life journey took him to Las Vegas for a time before finally settling in West Des Moines.
Thomas is survived by his two sons, Dallas Smith and David (Amanda) Smith; his grandchildren, Alexander, Danielle, Austin, Evan, Owen, and Avery Smith; his sister, Jeanie Campbell; half-sister, Shawn Smith; half-brother, Danny (Sarah) Smith; and his friend, Lucille. He is also remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Smith and Richard and Carmon Sandal; and his brother-in-law, Scott A. Campbell.
