Thomas Burt Smith, Sr.

Thomas Burt Smith, Sr., affectionately known as "Digo," passed away at the age of 82 in Lake Cormorant, MS. He was born in Memphis, TN, on January 12, 1942.

During his vibrant life, Thomas established himself as a dedicated entrepreneur, owning and operating T&B Truck Repair for three decades. His commitment to his work was unparalleled, and he touched the lives of many through his dedication to his craft.

Beyond his professional success, Thomas had a zest for life that was unmatched. He found joy in racing boats and cars for many years, showcasing his adventurous spirit and love for excitement. His tenacity and determination were qualities that defined him throughout his lifetime; once he set his sights on something, he held on with the resilience of a bulldog.

One of Thomas's proudest accomplishments was not only his career but also his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He took immense pride in his family and cherished every moment spent with them. In addition to these roles, Thomas achieved the remarkable feat of winning the Mercury Triple Crown Race—an achievement that exemplified his skill and passion for racing boats.

Thomas will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife Polly (Jackson) Smith, son Thomas Burt Smith, Jr. (Angela), and sister Sue Shelton. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will forever be cherished by those closest to him.

Among Thomas's deceased family and friends are his daughter Tammy Jean Smith, siblings Arthur "Brud" Smith Jr., Phyllis James, Jean Fair, Linda Smith, grandchildren Thomas "TJ" Burt Smith III, Hailey Marie Bailey, Heather Thomas, Haylee and Kaylee Smith.

His memory will be carried on by surviving family members: grandchildren Thomas Phillip Williams, Kayla S.  Smith; great-grandchildren Thomas Burt Smith IV , Kaydence Hill , Easton Cole Smith, RJ Lollar.

A visitation will be held on March 17th from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Southaven followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. The burial will take place at 4:00 PM at the same location.  Pallbearers will be Bud Cox, Bruce Hughey, Matt Jones, Brian Riales, Kenneth Romaine, and Nick Wilson, and honorary pallbearer is Thomas J. Smith IV.

In honoring Thomas's memory, let us celebrate a life well-lived—a man who touched the hearts of many and left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
