Thomas Smyth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Mar. 1, 2026.
Thomas L. Smyth, a beacon of love and gentleness, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, in Harrison Township, Michigan. Born on April 5, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Thomas and Florence Smyth.

Thomas graduated from Berkley High School in the early 1960s. His quest for knowledge led him to earn a bachelor's degree in sciences from Lawrence Technological University in 1968, setting the stage for a successful career. As a sales engineer, Thomas's professional journey was marked by many fruitful years, most notably with Mac Valves Company in Wixom, Michigan, where he left a lasting impression on his colleagues and the industry.

Outside the office, Thomas was a man of varied interests. From his early days, he found joy in playing hockey, a passion that evolved into a lifelong support for the Detroit Red Wings. His love for the game was paralleled by his love for nature, as evidenced by his dedication to gardening. Thomas found solace in the tranquility of his garden, which was a testament to his patience and care.

Traveling was another of Thomas's joys, as he believed in the enrichment that comes with experiencing new places and cultures. However, it was the time spent with his family that he cherished the most. He was a devoted father to Ryan T. Smyth and Erin (Dennis) Koch, a loving brother to Dorothy Conrad and the late Elaine and Russell Smyth, and a treasured uncle to many nieces and nephews. Thomas's legacy of love extended beyond his immediate family, as he was an organ donor to his late brother Russell, demonstrating his selflessness and commitment to giving others a chance at life.

Those who knew Thomas will remember him as a man of great intellect, with a gentle spirit and a loving heart. His presence brought comfort and joy to those around him, and his influence will be felt for generations to come. Thomas's life was a testament to the power of kindness, the strength of family bonds, and the impact one person can have on the world around them.

Family will have a gathering on Wednesday from 3:00 PM ~ 8:00 PM at Sawyer Fuller Funeral Home 2125 12 Mile Rd. Berkley.
