Thomas A. Soutos, of Exton, PA, passed away on March 22, 2025, at 96. He was born on March 20, 1929, to the late Alexander and Chrisa Soutos in Samos, Greece. Thomas was the beloved husband of the late Eva H. Soutos and a devoted father to Basil Soutos and Alex Soutos (Jennifer). He was a cherished grandfather to Jaime and the late Alexi Soutos and a dear brother to Nicholas Soutos (Maria).
Thomas Soutos lived an extraordinary life marked by resilience, determination, and service to others. Growing up in WWII, German authorities occupied Greece; his family faced immense challenges. Despite these hardships, Thomas pursued his education in Greece and Switzerland after the war, cultivating a lifelong passion for medicine.
In 1956, Thomas embarked on a new chapter by traveling to the United States. Shortly after he arrived in New York, he married Eva H. Hatjygeorge on Memorial Day, a union and love affair that lasted over 60 years. The marriage was arranged by family members, and by today's standards, it is unthinkable. His love and devotion to his wife was unmatched, even with his wife's Alzheimer's disease.
Thomas earned his pharmacy degree from Columbia University in 1960, beginning a life-long career that reflected his deep commitment to medicine. After moving to King of Prussia, PA, in the mid-sixties, he worked at Wyeth Laboratories before opening a mom-and-pop drugstore in
Norristown, PA. The drugstore became a cornerstone of the community, with Thomas often extending credit or forgoing payments to help those in need. Later in life, he worked for pharmacy retail chains and mail-order service firms, checking over 600+ prescriptions each day, and his final prescription was filled at 80. Known for his philosophy that "a well-dressed man is a confident and successful man," Thomas proudly wore a suit and tie to work every day for 50 years.
During his life, Thomas and Eva served the Greek community by regularly attending church services and donating their time and money to better the Greek Community. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a self-taught electrician, carpenter, master craftsman, and gardener. He had a passion for fast cars, owning a 1979 280-Z. His love for life and dedication to everything he undertook inspired all who knew him. Reading and learning were his convictions to further educate himself and others around him. Thomas was a devoted teacher and philosopher, loved his family, and, at times, was a God-fearing man, demanding others to be the best version of themselves 100% of the time. He earned the admiration and love of those around him, even in the last days of his life. Thomas A. Soutos was a great man, and everyone around him benefited from knowing him.
