Dr. Thomas (Tom) G. Springer, 83, passed away January 27, 2025 in his Houston, Texas home surrounded by loving family and friends. Tom was born on December 3, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Glenn and Rebecca (Aulick) Springer. He graduated from Mount Healthy High School and then the University of Cincinnati. One of his professors, recognizing his potential, encouraged him to continue his education and in doing so, earned a doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of California, Berkley. After Berkeley, he began his career with E. I. DuPont de Nemours Chemical Company. His career progression included Venture Team Leader for the Nylon Intermediates Business, Plant Manager for the DuPont Plant in Victoria, Texas, Country Manager and Head of the Singapore Adipic Acid Plant. Tom's career allowed him to travel and work in various countries, including China and Japan. His leadership in Victoria, Texas as Plant Manager is recognized for its inclusive and diverse approach. In 1992, prior to his appointment as Country Manager in Singapore, he asked Jewel Sims to marry him by saying, "I'm going to Singapore; wanna get married?" On May 30, 1992, they married in a private ceremony at the Princeville Resort in Kauai, Hawaii.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Glenn and Rebecca Springer, his brother; James "Jim" Everett Springer. He is survived by his wife Jewel Sims; children Stacey (Earnest) Straw; Corey (Elisa) Bosier; three grandchildren, Coressa Bosier, Jewel Bosier and Carlie Bosier, Sister-in-law, Jane Springer; nephews Jimmy (Becky) and Joe (Dawn) Springer; niece Jenny (Chuck) Kluener, and many loving relatives and friends.
Tom loved to share stories of living and growing up in the community of Mount Healthy, Ohio, spending time on his grandparents' farm, playing quarterback with his brother playing wide receiver on the Mount Healthy football team. It brought him great joy to recall the game announcer saying, "Touchdown...that pass was from Springer to Springer!"
He was a member of Lakewood Church serving for many years as an usher. His compassion and love for others involved assisting in church and City of Houston food drives, helping individuals file their personal tax returns, being a Big Brother mentor, significant donations to the Star of Hope Ministry Mission, Houston Ballet and the Houston Symphony.
Tom loved playing golf so much so, that their home in Bentwater sat on the Miller course in Montgomery, TX. He and his wife played most, if not all, major golf courses in the United States including the Augusta National Golf Course, home of the Master's Golf Tournament. Tom loved music and his collection reflected his openness and acceptance of all people being inclusive of singers and musicians of all genres.
He will forever be remembered for his humility, great character, having the "correct" response for any question, his beautiful blue eyes, uncanny humor, soft hands, ticklish feet, and love for cherry pie.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation and reception from one o'clock until four o'clock Saturday afternoon, February 8, 2025 at the Bradshaw-Carter Home, 1734 W. Alabama St. in Houston. A memorial service will begin at two o'clock, with Pastor Barbara Curtis presiding.
