Thomas Steinis Obituary

Thomas J. Steinis
Thomas John Steinis, 60 went to be with the Lord on December 20th at Griffin Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Tom was born August 9th, 1965, third child of Julia (Hicock) Steinis and the late John Steinis.
Through his teen years, Tom attended Silver Lake Conference Center, a church camp in Sharon, CT. When he aged out, the camp remained an important part of his life returning frequently to spend time with the camp family.
Tom graduated from Seymour High School, furthering his studies in auto mechanics which then became a lifelong vocation. Always interested in cars and motorcycles, later he became owner of Oakville Service and a successful businessman. Tom's garage soon became a place to go with any car problems even attracting friends from out of state.
After leaving Oakville Service, Tom worked at J and M Motors in Naugatuck as a master mechanic until he became ill.
Tom also had a love of dogs, rescuing several through his life. One particular dog was Cindy Lou, who towards the end would often jump on his hospital bed and lay with him.
Tom is survived by his sister Aletha (Lance) Abbott of Litchfield CT, brother Peter Steinis of Zephyrhills, FL and Matthew (Samantha) Steinis of Roxbury CT. He also leaves behind his loving partner April Cheney.
Services will be held Friday, December 26th, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Oxford United Church of Christ (UCC) 3 Academy Rd., Oxford, CT 06478. Burial will be held at a later time.
