Thomas "Tommy" C. Stokes Jr.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held for Thomas “Tommy” Stokes Jr., 84, of Sibley, Louisiana, on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at his home at 484 Leachman Rd. Sibley, Louisiana 71073.

Tommy was born on October 26, 1938, to Thomas Sr. and Annie Stokes, in El Dorado, Arkansas, and passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2023, in Sibley, Louisiana.

Tommy was a very good-natured, laid-back, happy man with a great sense of humor who never met a stranger.  He loved being on the lake and going fishing. He enjoyed being outdoors, going hunting, bowling, and playing golf. He hated wearing shoes and was known to drive, and even go into stores barefoot. He loved spending time with his family and making jokes. He had special nicknames for everyone and loved to make people laugh. He was never grouchy or angry and always had a smile on his face. He really enjoyed slow dancing with all the pretty ladies, however, his longtime girlfriend Diane “Sweet Lips” was always his favorite dancing partner. They loved spending time together traveling, going out to eat, sitting on the front porch smoking cigarettes, and spending time with family. He loved his family dearly and always made time to do things with them. He went to lunch with his daughter Lindsey “Duck” every Thursday. When she was a little girl, she would crawl up in the recliner with him and watch the Dukes of Hazzard with him. Every year for Easter, he would buy her a colored duck. He spent as much time with her and the grandkids at her and fiance Troy’s house as he could. He was always up for family gatherings of any kind. He just loved having his family together. His son Thomas III “Monk” was not only his namesake but was also one of his favorite singers. He loved going to hear him play with his band when they performed. He had the pleasure of meeting his oldest grandson Adam for the first time on April 5, 2022. That was a very special and meaningful moment for him. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had a special bond with each of them. His grandsons Hunter and Cody loved to hunt and fish with him every chance he could, his grand-daughter Madison would drive him around in the golf cart all day at the course in Haughton, and his grand-daughter Brooklynn would share a bag of Hot Cheetos with him on the way home when he would come pick her up from cheer practice. He found joy in the simple things such as watching westerns and action movies, relaxing at home, and spending time with the people he loved. He lived a full and happy life and left here knowing he was loved.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his son; Thomas C. Stokes III; daughter, Lindsey A. Stokes; grandchildren, Adam Taylor Richmond, Cody Lane Dinksins, Hunter Shane Dinkins, Madison LeeAnne Dinkins, Brooklynn Anne Gray; four great-grandchildren and his girlfriend, Diane Visage Fotopoulos.
