STOKES, Mr. Thomas R. "Killowatt" - Age 68, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at his residence. Family hour 1:30 PM Thursday, October 17, 2024 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with a memorial service commencing at 2:00 PM. Mr. Thomas Robert "Killowatt" Stokes was born January 28, 1956, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Alice Releford. He attended Flint Public Schools and graduated from Flint Northern High School. Thomas enlisted in the U.S Army, receiving recognition as a Sharpshooter. He was Honorably Discharged, returning home to begin employment at AC Spark Plug, a division of General Motors Corporation. Thomas made many friends while employed there and retired after more than 25 years. His last years of retirement was spent as a Benefit Representative, which he truly enjoyed.
Thomas spent many years as a CB handle enthusiast earing him the CB name "Killowatt". He was also one of the founding members of Third World Traveling Truckers (T.W.T.T), beginning in the late 70's. "Dr. Killowatt" and "Max", the banana yellow van, was a sight to see on the road.
Thomas was once an active member of Abundance Grace Church of the Nazarene under the leadership of Pastor Greg Cavette. He actively served as a helping hand around the church with whatever was needed. After the pandemic, he moved his membership to Mt. Hermon Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. K.B. Yarber.
"Killowatt" was truly an outdoor buff, spending lots of time hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved gathering his family together for cookouts and was well known for his infamous pig roasts. "Kilowatt" never met a stranger. If you met him, you would never forget him.
Mr. Thomas Robert "Killowatt" Stokes leaves to cherish in memory: loving mother, Alice Releford; 3 children, Thomas Tieaccho Stokes of Seattle, WA, Thomas (Stephanie) Stokes of Statesville, NC, and Valencia Stokes of Flint, MI; grandchildren, Tieaccho Skinner, Shatieacco Stokes, Myonna Guise, Adriana Harrison, Jayden Pullom, Joshua Pullom, Kendall Pullom, and Thomas Stokes III; siblings, Patricia Stokes of Las Vegas, NV, Lenora (Daring) Wade, and Alicia Childs all of Flint, MI; aunt, Carolyn Brown of Toledo, OH; a host of close nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends including step-father, Arden Releford; special friends, Elliot "J.R" Drake, Kevin Brown, Stevie Rockmore, Lonzo "Claw" Clark, Tyrone "Wildflower" Carroll, Johnny Benton, Third World Traveling Trucker Brothers, Union Local #651 and so many more.
Mr. Stokes was preceded in death by his son, Dion McGruder; mother, Alice Releford; grandparents, many other relatives, trucking brothers and close friends.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Pastor Cavette and the Abundance Grace Church of the Nazarene family, Pastor Yarber and the Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church family, and Christ Our Hope Church Family.
