We are saddened to announce the passing of Thomas Lee Thissen, He passed away on May 29th 2025 at age 63. He passed in his home due to health complications. Born in Columbus, OH, Thomas Lee Thissen was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, and friend to all.
Thomas Lee Thissen, or Tom as he preferred, was raised in Kansas City, Raytown, & Chillicothe Missouri. He graduated with a BS in Construction Engineering Technology from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. He lived in North Texas where he had his first son. Later he moved to Kansas where he worked as a building inspector. Tom was an industrious man; his experiences and education led him to great success as a building inspector. He had a strong work ethic and a playful character to match it. He liked to work hard and play even harder.

Tom loved to live life to the fullest. He loved to travel and party. He enjoyed cookouts, campouts, loud music, surround sound movies, building things, motorcycles, cars, river rafting, and much more. To his last days, he talked about rafting the Guadalupe river in Central Texas with his brother one more time. He would reminisce about memories of travel from going out on the oceans, to summit of peaks of mountains, and all the way down to canyons below them. He was a nostalgic person. He saw it all and had great memories of them.
Thomas Lee Thissen will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever live in our hearts.

I was a pretty close friend with Tom in 6th grade. He was ornery and got me in trouble a couple of times. I remember his dog. Was the name jardy or something like that? At the end of 6th grade our teacher gave Tom a giant Hershey chocolate bar. He was the only one in our class with perfect attendance. I remember because I only missed one day when it snowed and my parents kept me home because they thought school would be closed. I also remember his dad´s basement refrigerator full of Meister Brau beer and the cigarette pack holder Tom made for his mother. Lots of silly stuff we did together and I was sad when he moved to Chillicothe. We never saw each other again but I always have remembered him fondly. RIP buddy.
