Julia Spencer Scott, age 72, of Blue Springs, Missouri died peacefully at home on May 31, 2025 surrounded by family. Julie was born June 2, 1952 in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Ruskin High School in 1970 before attending the University of Central Missouri where she earned a Bachelors of Science in Education Degree. While at UCM she became a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority and was active in the alumnae association up until her death. Julie continued her education at SMU by earning a Master's of Liberal Arts. Julie's teaching career began in the Raytown School District where she taught foreign language. She then taught 30 years as a high school French and Spanish teacher in the Blue Springs School District until her retirement in 2006.
One of Julie's biggest passions was to travel. Her love of travel began during childhood with her parents, and she instilled that same love to her own children. Before Julie even returned home from one trip, she was already planning the next one. She even shared her love of travel by chaperoning student trips to various countries throughout the world.
Julie was the sponsor for the AFS organization at Blue Springs High School. She lovingly hosted four AFS students in her home.
Julie is survived by her husband of 48 years, Tom Scott. She leaves behind her two daughters, Lauren Scott and Whitney Heinze (Daniel). She also leaves behind a grandson, Alexander and another grandchild arriving in October. Other survivors include her sister, Carolyn Overfelt Davis (Russ), sister-in-law Susan Swearingin (Dennis), brother-in-law Duane Baresel and her beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Julie leaves behind many close and cherished friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Al and Beverly Spencer; her sister, Cheryl Baresel; and in-laws, Tom and Merle Scott.

Julie was my dear friend I had known since 2nd grade. We went all through school together enjoying many of the same activities: Girl Scouts, slumber parties, studying together, riding bikes, playing outside til dark in the summertime...we were instant friends! She was so nice, smart, friendly, and easy to be with. I trusted her with my dreams, secrets, fears, everything-you could say we were pals! I remember how crazy we were for the Beatles and if a Beatle song came on on the radio, we would call one another to say, "Listen now!" Julie´s family was very warm and welcoming too-it´s a good thing because many a night Julie and I were up giggling, talking about everything, trading perfumes, listening to our albums on a low volume; I hope we didn´t waken her parents very often! I treasure my many memories of my friendship with Julie! We went our separate ways after high school-and colleges, careers, marriages, children, moves (etc) all contributed to us losing track of one another for too long! The good news is that when we did see see each other from time to time it was as if there was no distance at all, and she was as sweet and interesting, sincere and friendly as ever! She had become a teacher, and I´m sure her students loved her. Julie was a quality person with a good heart and loving ways.
I´ll never forget her, and I´m so glad she was a big part of my life. My deepest sympathy goes out to Julie´s family.
Rest In Peace, Julie. I loved you, I hope you knew.
(I´m planning on seeing you again in Heaven someday.)
