Thomas William Torpey

March 2, 1934 - January 31, 2025
With Deep Sorrow, we announce the passing of Thomas William Torpey. Thomas is survived by his wife Lenore (Nay Troup) of 65 years, his four children, Thomas Torpey (Madeline), Kelley Torpey, Katherine Torpey, and Patricia Keller (Paul), and his grandchildren Madison and Brian Keller. He is also survived by his brothers, John, William, James, many nieces and nephews, and was predeceased by his brother Joseph. Thomas graduated from St. Peter's Grammar School, Haverstraw High School, and St. Bonaventure University. He served our country in the Army in Korea. Thomas was an astute businessman and took a small insurance agency, The Ducey Agency, and turned into one of the premier insurance agencies in the region. He received national recognition and became part of the President's Counsel of Transamerica Insurance Company. Thomas as a young man was a competitive baseball and football player and bowler. Later in life he became an avid golfer and was a long time member of Rockland Country Club, a place that was dear to his heart.
Thomas was a founding member of the St. Thomas Aquinas President's Counsel, a lifetime member of the Rescue Hook and Ladder Fire Company, and served on many charitable boards. His generosity extended to many organizations, with a special fondness for his alma mater with the establishment of two endowed scholarships.
A viewing will be held at Holt Funeral Home, 50 New Main Street, Haverstraw, NY from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 AM on February 4, 2025 at St. Peter's & St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 115 Broadway, Haverstraw, NY 10927. Christian Burial will follow at Mt. Repose Cemetery in Haverstraw, NY.
